Our team identified a cost-effective solution to keep the plant within its consent limits under increasing plant load. The solution incorporated process optimisation and a low-cost plant upgrade resulting in significant plant performance improvement at minimal investment.
Due to an increase in industrial activity in the region, the Levin WWTP had an increased influent load. The nitrates and ammonia were areas of particular concern due to the nature of the industrial activity. Through modelling the plant using GPS-X, opportunities for significant process improvements were identified to treat these contaminants. Furthermore, the bottleneck of the plant was identified and the plant has since undergone a minor upgrade to the aeration unit, improving the plant performance significantly.
