Nelson City Council
Our team’s treatment audit identified critical process pinch-points to meeting future demands. We scoped upgrades to address these pinch-points and provided cost estimates for the client to use in their LTP. Our team identified that it was not cost effective to provide pre-treatment clarification.
Nelson WTP is a 50ML/d direct membrane process in the South Island of New Zealand. The plant is fed from a range of surface source waters of varying quality. The Council wanted to know how to budget for upgrading process pinch-points and whether it was cost effective to install clarification upstream of the membranes.
Our team determined the optimum chemical dose regime to minimise treatment cost and improve treated water quality. We developed an expansion to the solids handling that has minimal footprint impact. We also evaluated pre-treatment clarification compared to the current treatment process and determined clarification was not cost effective, which represented a considerable cost saving.
