Summer Demand Management Planning

Summer Demand Management Planning

Wellington Water

A web based summer demand management plan has been developed, enabling operators and managers to monitor and respond appropriately to immediate and forecasted constraints in the system.

Our Role

Process Modelling

The 2016 Kaikoura earthquake raised concerns regarding the Wellington region's water supply due to the unknown effect it had on an aquifer which makes up a significant proportion of the supply. In order to prepare for the summer period where demand is typically high and river levels are low, and given the unknown status of the aquifer, a real time demand management plan was developed to prepare staff for a range of scenarios and inform the course of action for all stakeholders.

The plan was developed in our web based Infrastructure Data software by using real time data collection from weather stations, the treatment plants and network, and running a number of models in real time.
