Pilot Plant – DBO
Design, build and operate a pilot plant and plan a pilot trial.
Pilot trials, if executed well, can eliminate design uncertainty (performance & sizing) for a new plant or an upgrade of an existing plant. Successful pilot plant trialing is dependent upon two key factors:
- Design of Experiment (DOE) and
DOE is a statistical concept, the purpose of DOE is to obtain clear, unambiguous conclusions at minimum cost. Clear means that the results are easily understood and unambiguous means that the cause of an effect is known.
Similitude is achieved when test conditions are created such that the test results are applicable to the real design. A test is said to have similitude with the full-scale application if the two share geometric similarity, kinematic similarity and dynamic similarity. In pilot trialing this means matching the design parameters and operational philosophy of the pilot plant as closely as possible to full-scale.
Lutra’s expert process engineers can plan a robust pilot trial that based on DOE and similitude giving confidence in the outcomes.
Our team can also design, build and operate pilot plants.
