Compass is a patented advanced coagulant dose control system developed by Lutra. It was introduced to the UK market in 2010. Severn Trent Water (STW) were the first UK water company to trial Compass. They ran a 6 month off-line trial in 2011 and a year long on-line trial at their Mythe Water Treatment Works (WTW) to fully evaluate the performance of Compass.
The performance of Compass at the plant was in the words of one operator “flawless”. The plant went on to fulltime Compass control in 2013. STW were finalists in the 2013 UK Water Innovation Awards and in the 2013 CIWEM Innovation awards for the Mythe WTW Compass project. Based on the success at Mythe STW elected to install Compass at 9 of their large and medium surface water treatment plants.
