Project overview
Matamata-Piako District Council were upgrading their PLC and SCADA in 2024. The old plant control programme could not be saved for use in the new PLC and the plant controls needed to be rewritten. Having previously as-built the functional description of the existing controls, Lutra was further engaged to find ways to make improvements to the plant operation.
Lutra interviewed the operations team to establish known issues, and proposed fixes in a workshop.
Improvements were made to the UV start-up sequence, implementing a dedicated warm up step for the UVT meter; removing once and for all a recurring instrument fault that required manual operator intervention on every startup.
The level control of the contact tank was also revised to rationalise the control logic.
Key Project Points:
- The process control program of Scott Road WTP was reworked following workshopping of known issues in which solutions by Lutra were proposed and discussed.
- Improvements were made to the WTP that allowed operators to more easily operate the plant.
Performance/Success:
Scott Road WTP was recommissioned successfully in December 2024.
