In order to optimise the media filters at Waikanae Water Treatment Plant for better performance, Kapiti Coast District Council looked to Lutra to do a thorough inspection of their condition.
Assessment of the filters included:

- Media depth, volume and surface profile measurements
- Core sampling
- Media dirt content analysis
- Filter backwash turbidity washout curve anaylsis
- Visual observation (air scour pattern)

The assessment provided Kapiti Coast District Council with clear recommendations on how the performance of the filters could be optimised. All filters need a media top up and the backwash settings can be tweaked to optimise performance.
I am unsure how much we can say about the recommendations because otherwise we are pretty much saying that they neglected the filters.
